Application Statuses and History

Understand what each Tracker status means, how Aplyr auto-classifies your emails into a status, how to change one, and how to read the activity timeline.

  • Every application in your Tracker carries a status that reflects where it stands, from Applied to Offer or Rejected.
  • Aplyr reads your incoming emails and auto-classifies each one into the right status, so your pipeline stays current without manual updates.
  • You can override any status by hand, and the Activity timeline keeps a dated history of every change.

What each status means

Aplyr uses a fixed set of statuses so your whole pipeline reads consistently at a glance:

  • Applied — your application was submitted and confirmed. This is where most applications begin.
  • Assessment — the employer sent a coding test, take-home, or screening assessment to complete.
  • Interview — an interview was scheduled or requested, including phone screens and recruiter calls.
  • Offer — you received an offer. Nice work.
  • Rejected — the employer declined to move forward.
  • Follow Up — something needs your attention or a nudge, such as a pending reply or a stalled thread.
  • Recruiter Reachout — a recruiter contacted you proactively, often before you applied anywhere.
  • Job Board — marketing or digest emails from job boards, kept separate so they don't clutter your real applications.
  • Other — anything Aplyr couldn't confidently sort into one of the categories above.

How Aplyr auto-classifies your emails

When you connect an email source, Aplyr reads incoming messages and sorts each one into a status automatically. A confirmation email lands an application in Applied; an interview invite moves it to Interview; a rejection note moves it to Rejected. Follow-up emails for an application you already have are auto-threaded onto that same entry rather than creating a duplicate, so your history stays in one place.

Each auto-classified entry includes a confidence indicator. When Aplyr isn't sure, it errs toward Other or Follow Up and leaves the final call to you.

📌 Note Auto-classification only works when an email source is connected. Connect your Gmail or your Aplyr Inbox from Integrations — see Connecting and managing email sources.

How to change a status

Aplyr gets most emails right, but you're always in control. To set a status yourself:

  1. Open Tracker and click an application to open its detail view.
  2. Click the status badge at the top of the panel to open the status dropdown.
  3. Choose the status that matches where the application really stands, for example Interview or Offer.
  4. The change saves instantly and is recorded in the Activity timeline.
💡 Tip A manual status change always wins. Once you set a status by hand, Aplyr respects it and won't silently overwrite your choice from a later email.

Reading the activity timeline

Every application has an Activity timeline in its detail view — a dated, chronological list of everything that's happened. It captures status changes (both automatic and manual) and the emails that drove them, so you can see exactly when you applied, when the interview invite arrived, and what came next.

Where an entry was created from an email, you can open the original message straight from the timeline to re-read the details.

⚠️ Warning Statuses describe an application's stage; they don't move it forward on their own. Marking something Follow Up is a reminder to you — Aplyr won't email the employer for you.
